Lama Depa Returns To Portsmouth

September 18 and 19, 2010

Teachings on Tong Len

On Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19, Kagyu Samten Choling, a Portsmouth dharma group (www.nhkagyu.com), will host a visit by Lama Depa, an American Buddhist lama in the Tibetan tradition. Lama Depa will discuss Tibetan Buddhist techniques for developing and sustaining compassion for ourselves and others in a talk on Saturday evening. On Sunday, she will hold a mini-retreat to practice these techniques. Both events will take place at the Seacoast Wellness Center, 135 McDonough Street in Portsmouth (www.seacoastwellnesscenter.com).

Lama Depa is a senior teacher at Kagyu Thubten Choling, the monastery and retreat center directed by Lama Norlha Rinpoche in Wappingers Falls, New York. Lama Depa was ordained in 1986 by H.H. Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche, and has completed two traditional three-year retreats under the direction of Lama Norlha Rinpoche. She has taught extensively at various centers affiliated with Lama Norlha Rinpoche and at Omega Institute. She also leads Dharma activities and meditation practice for children and adolescents, and is presently completing a program for local teenagers, “Training in the Confidence of Selfless Compassion.”

Saturday’s talk will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Sunday retreat will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and will include time for a quick lunch (lunch will not be provided). The suggested donation for Saturday is $10 and for Sunday, $15. For further information, please contact Anne Sauve at (207) 438-9338 or at sauveanne@gmail.com
